In affiliation with tertiary care partner Massachusetts General Hospital,
our new, state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab now offers diagnostic services five days
a week.
Cardiac catheterization is a painless procedure that is used to diagnose
blockages in the veins and arteries that could be causing problems for a patient or could
lead to problems. A very narrow tube, or catheter, is inserted into the femoral artery
located in the groin area. The catheter travels up through the artery directly into the
heart where a dye is released. With sophisticated imaging capabilities, cardiologists can
see where blockages may exist. Because veins and arteries have no nerve endings patients
feel no pain and anesthesia is not necessary. As the procedure is being done, the cardiologist
talks with the patient and is able to tell him or her immediately if there are any areas of
concern.
Additional Diagnostic Services
We also offer angiography, echo stress testing, pharmacologic stress testing, tilt
table testing and arrhythmia interpretation by holter monitoring.
