Anna Jaques Announces Leadership Transition for 2015
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. -- After nine years as the President & CEO at Anna Jaques Hospital and an impressive 40-year career in healthcare, Delia O’Connor announced her plans to retire at the end of calendar year 2014. Mark L. Goldstein, EVP/CFO at Anna Jaques since 2005, will take the helm upon Delia’s retirement as of January 1, 2015.
“Delia’s legacy is that of a visionary, decisive leader whose extraordinary contributions to the hospital and greater Newburyport area have earned her the trust and respect of the entire community,” said David LaFlamme, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Anna Jaques Hospital. “She motivates and inspires at all levels of the organization. Her sense of humor and the grace with which she leads the organization will be missed by the hospital community.”
LaFlamme continued, “For nearly a decade, Delia and Mark have been the driving force behind the hospital’s impressive transformation and the corresponding outpouring of community support. They have worked side-by-side to stabilize the hospital and ensure its future success under new models of healthcare delivery and payment reform. We are fortunate to have such exceptional leadership in Newburyport, and look forward to Mark’s natural transition to the President & CEO role.”

Under Delia’s leadership, AJH has achieved an impressive turnaround, with eight consecutive years of operating surpluses and modernization of the entire campus. The hospital’s quality and patient satisfaction scores have shown both high levels of performance and marked improvement during Delia’s tenure. Anna Jaques has been named three times in the last five years by the Boston Business Journal as one of the greater Boston area’s Best Places to Work.
In recognition of her exceptional leadership and advocacy, Delia has received several awards and accolades. Most recently, she was awarded the prestigious 2014 William L. Lane Hospital Advocate Award from the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA) in June 2014. She was also named Massachusetts Healthcare Executive of the Year by the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE) in 2010. The Salisbury Chamber of Commerce honored Delia with its 2013 Salisbury Chamber of Commerce Leadership Award. In 2010, Girls, Inc. named Delia the Business Leader Award at the organization’s “Breaking the Glass Ceiling” Awards Banquet.
Prior to joining Anna Jaques, O’Connor served for seven years as president of Caritas Norwood Hospital and for nine years as Chief Operating Officer for Holy Family Hospital. Her earlier career includes four years at Lahey Clinic and five years with the Massachusetts Department of Public health, including her role as Deputy Commissioner.
