A Hospitalist is a physician who specializes in the care of hospitalized patients and is present in the hospital at all times. The Hospitalist's primary professional focus is internal medicine which involves the total care of a patient from the time of admission until the patient leaves the hospital. Hospitalists represent the most rapidly growing form of medical practice in the United States. Anna Jaques Hospital was among the first community hospitals in the area to develop a Hospitalist program.
Hospitalists do not have a medical practice outside the hospital, and they are trained to provide care only for you – the hospitalized patient. The Hospitalist will coordinate your medical care, including designing an individual treatment plan for you and coordinating consultations with our outstanding medical, surgical and orthopedic staff.
Since the Hospitalist is present in the hospital at all times, your Hospitalist physician is available to spend the necessary time with you and your family so that you can return home as quickly and safely as possible.
