Emergency Care

Fast, compassionate treatment for life-threatening illness and injury

Emergency Care for Adults at Anna Jaques Hospital

If you have a medical emergency, call 911.

Most of us don’t expect to face a medical emergency as we go about our normal routine. But at Anna Jaques Hospital, we’re prepared. Our Gerrish Family Foundation Emergency Department (ED) is here for you, ready to help, every day of the year. When you need medical attention for an illness or injury that comes out of the blue, you can rely on us.

Compassionate Treatment from Experienced Experts

At Anna Jaques, we provide some of the most advanced emergency medical services available in a community hospital setting. You simply don’t find the comprehensive care that our hospital emergency department offers in an urgent care center or freestanding emergency room (ER).

Our skilled staff includes caring nurses who are specifically trained in emergency medicine. Nurses are joined by highly trained physician assistants, nurse practitioners and doctors who are board certified in emergency medicine. Only a few community hospitals have physicians who have undergone such rigorous training. The exceptional qualifications of our staff speak to the quality of care you receive at Anna Jaques.

Fast, Coordinated Transfers with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

If you require the highest level of emergency care, you benefit from our relationship with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). That’s where we often transfer people who have experienced traumatic injuries or other severe medical problems. To ensure you receive the quickest and best possible care, our doctors will speak with BIDMC emergency physicians before your transfer. Our team will discuss your condition, treatment and whether it would be best to transfer you by ground ambulance or MedFlight air transport.

We’re able to send radiology images to BIDMC electronically using LifeImage. This allows BIDMC doctors to see your imaging scans before your arrival so you get the timeliest care. Your doctors also communicate with BIDMC staff to stay up to date on your condition after your transfer. They can access your information via electronic medical records, as well.

The Gerrish Family Fast Track Service is designed to get you the care you need quickly when you have a minor illness or injury. These are conditions that require treatment, but not extensive evaluations. Our goal is to see, treat and release you in two hours or less.

The program was named in honor of a generous gift from the Gerrish family. It operates seven days a week, 10:00 am – 10:00 pm.

Some of the conditions we treat through this service include the following:

    • Broken bones
    • Cuts and lacerations
