About Dr. Chang

Dr. Paul S. Chang is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a broad background in specialty orthopaedic care, from orthopaedic trauma to sports medicine and joint reconstruction.  He is experienced in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, including nonsurgical management of many orthopaedic and rheumatologic conditions.  Dr. Chang also has many years of orthopaedics teaching experience at a major academic medical center, has had a private practice, and has over 20 years of service in the Army.

Dr. Chang is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point New York in 1978 and received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree (D.O.) at Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991.  He served over 20 years as both line officer and an orthopaedic surgeon in the Army.  Dr. Chang was also an intern class president at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. from 1991-1992 and received his orthopaedic training at the renowned Brook Army Medical Center and Institute for Surgical Research in San Antonio, Texas.  His military experience has led to unique experiences in overseas medicine, as well as with mass casualty situations.   

Dr. Chang was an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at one the premier orthopaedic programs in the country, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  During that time, Dr. Chang served as chief of orthopaedics at one of the largest veterans’ hospitals in the United States, as well as an orthopaedic trauma specialist at a Level I Trauma Center for many years. 

Board-certified from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is actively involved in several specialty orthopaedic organizations, such as the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, and the Society for Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.  He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association, and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Dr. Chang prides himself on being a caring, understanding, and experienced physician who believes in a rational approach to the long-term welfare of patients.  He is an avid outdoorsman, and has been a full-certified professional ski instructor for almost 40 years, and was very involved in the National Ski Patrol, as well.  He and his wife, Mary, have four children and live in Boxford, Massachusetts.
