Shields PET/CT at Anna Jaques
Shields Health Care and Anna Jaques Hospital partner to provide PET/CT services, a valuable diagnostic tool, to the local community. PET/CT scans are used to identify cellular changes in the body and may be able to identify diseases earlier than other imaging tests. This type of scan enables physicians to more accurately diagnose cancer, heart disease and brain disorders. Shields also provides MRI services on the Anna Jaques campus.
PET/CT is the most advanced medical imaging technique available today. It combines PET’s ability to detect changes in cell activity with the fine structural detail that CT scans provide. This revolutionary technology enables your physician to detect the presence of disease earlier and pinpoint its location with much greater accuracy than PET or CT scans alone. PET/CT scans provide a powerful tool for diagnosing and staging cancer and differentiating Alzheimer’s disease from other forms of dementia.
Through this partnership patients will now have access to a state-of-the-art Siemens Biograph mCT 20 slice PET/CT scanner. The top benefits of this scanner include:
- detecting very small cancer lesions, advanced heart disease and neurological disorders such as dementia
- using technology that reduces radiation exposure, which is particularly important when imaging patients with frequent follow up exams
- providing the maximum comfort to decrease feelings of claustrophobia, due to its fast scan times and wide open table
