About Dr. Hartmann
Dr. Peter Hartmann is a board-certified general surgeon who has spent his entire 30 years of practice in Newburyport. He has had a special interest in breast surgery from the start, and was one of the earliest surgeons to use sentinel node biopsy in the community setting in the 1990s. Now as a dedicated breast surgeon, he focuses exclusively on a variety of breast procedures related to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. He has guided the Gerrish Breast Center to accreditation by the Nation Association of Breast Care Programs which recognizes the program for its excellence is all facets of screening, diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant breast disease.
Dr. Hartmann is an active physician leader and previously served on the hospital's Board of Trustees, acted as past president of the Medical Staff and former chief of surgery. He was also the driving force behind the establishment of the Level III Trauma Center at Anna Jaques and actively participates in the ongoing recertification of the center.
