Interlocks takes top honors in Pink Up the Port
Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce a close second

NEWBURYPORT — It was far from an easy task, but the judges for the 2018 Pink Up the Port Photo Contest have made their decision.
Interlocks Salon + Spa on Merrimac Street in downtown Newburyport took the top prize for a photo of its team outfitted in pink to celebrate survivors and draw attention to efforts across the city during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Additionally, Interlocks staff offered pink hair extensions to their clients throughout the month. Efforts were headed up by salon owner Ginny Eramo.
Coming in a close second was the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce for its drone photo featuring representatives of local businesses and community organizations standing in the shape of a pink ribbon.
Joining the Chamber in the effort were representatives from Pentucket Bank; the Haverhill Police Department, including Chief Alan DeNaro; Guaranteed Rate; Paper Potpourri; Carmen Johnson Muscular Therapy; Alpha E Consulting and Emmaus Inc., all of whom worked for the cause. The team at HC Media orchestrated the shot.
To enter, businesses submitted photos capturing how Breast Cancer Awareness Month was being recognized in their workplaces.
Voting was done by people from the Gerrish Breast Care Center and the Anna Jaques senior management team, whose members said in a statement it was a “very hard decision.”
The judges based their choices on creativity and level of “pinkness,” with extra points for incorporating awareness and prevention.
All through the month, Anna Jaques Hospital and the Gerrish Breast Care Center worked especially
hard to raise breast cancer awareness, promote prevention and celebrate survivors by hosting community events and initiatives.
The Pink Up the Port Photo Contest, now in its fifth year, provides a means for local businesses and organizations to help with the cause.
This year, Anna Jaques partnered with the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Amesbury Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce to make Pink Up the Port a regional program to encourage businesses and organizations throughout the region to participate.
