Education and Preparation is the Key

A speedy recovery from any orthopedic surgery begins with education and preparation, so you know what to expect and how best to return to the things you love to do. 

After surgery, most orthopedic patients find they need physical, occupational or hand therapy. Anna Jaques has comprehensive rehabilitation services to meet your needs. 

Visit and watch our video educational series. This series will help prepare you for your upcoming joint replacement by giving you a glimpse of the process ahead, and by providing important details to make your surgical experience as comfortable as possible. 

Patient are also required to have a COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to surgery. Talk to your surgeon about scheduling this appointment. When you're ready, call Patient Access at 978-834-8210 to schedule your test ahead of your surgery.

Once you have been scheduled for joint replacement surgery, you will be invited to a special class that has been developed by AJH orthopedic services, in conjunction with your orthopedic surgeon.

  • Meet your care team, including physical therapists, nurses and case managers.
  • Learn about the pre-operative requirements for surgery.
  • Know what to expect about the surgical process, your inpatient hospital stay, and discharge planning.

How do I sign up?

A representative from Anna Jaques Hospital will reach out to you to enroll you in an upcoming class. The class is held generally every first Thursday of the month from 1 pm- 2:30 pm in the Higgins Conference Room (first floor down the hall from the main lobby) at Anna Jaques Hospital.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

Patients who have joint replacement surgery will begin physical therapy just hours after surgery, and will continue for several weeks post-surgery. Most patients continue their rehabilitation with Anna Jaques Physical Therapy services where our team is highly trained in the specific needs of joint replacement patients, as well as a wide range of orthopedic-related rehabilitation. 

Our therapists frequently attend continuing education courses to bring the latest treatment techniques back to our clinic. They evaluate and develop an individualized care plan that addresses the specific needs and treatment goals of our patients. Therapy treatment may include various forms of therapeutic exercise to enhance function and strengthen muscles.
