Simon Faynzilberg, MD

Medical Director

Dr. Faynzilberg is a board certified, fellowship-trained pain specialist and serves as the medical director of the Comprehensive Pain Center. He graduated from St. Petersburg Medical Academy and completed his residency in general surgery and is board certified in surgery.

After moving to the United States, Dr. Faynzilberg completed his residency in Anesthesia at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center,  Harvard Medical School, where he served on staff and as a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. In 2007 he completed fellowship in Pain Management at Penn State University.

Dr. Faynzilberg is board certified in pain management and anesthesiology and specializes in interventional management of spinal pain.

Ruth Berger, MAR, MPAS, PA-C

Certified Physician Assistant

Ruth Berger, MAR, MPAS, PA-C, sees patients primarily at Dr. Faynzilberg's Haverhill location. Ruth double majored in music and religion at Wellesley College and received a dual masters degree at Yale University in music and  theology. She earned a master's in Physician Assistant Studies from Marywood University. After passing the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam, she began working in pain management. She worked briefly in orthopedics and neurology before returning to pain management with the Comprehensive Pain Center.  

Cathy Dowen, NP-C

Certified Nurse Practitioner

Cathy Dowen, NP-C, grew up on the South Shore and is now living locally with her wonderful husband and beautiful dog. She first earned her nursing degree from Salem State University, where she also played on the soccer team. After graduating she started working in orthopedics and neurology, then moved on to intensive care. She earned her master's degree from Simmons College as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Cathy started her career in primary care before transitioning to pain management. She remains very passionate about bedside nursing and continues to work as an ICU RN, as well. 

Brittney Tarantino, FNP-BC

Family Nurse Practitioner

Brittney has a broad variety of nursing experience. She spent many years treating infant, children, adult and geriatric patients in Boston hospitals. She earned her Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Endicott College and is now excited to have transitioned to working in pain management.

Tyler Martin, FNP-BC

Family Nurse Practitioner

Tyler is a Family Nurse Practitioner who joined the Comprehensive Pain Center in 2020. She is a Nurse with over 18 years of experience mostly in the hospital setting. She obtained her Bachelor’s and then Masters of Science in Nursing degrees from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she worked as a Pediatric Nurse and then moved to Boston where she joined the Trauma and General Surgery Team at Boston Medical Center.

Tyler enjoys getting to know her patients and understands that collaborating with the team can often provide the best overall outcomes. She respects her patients as active participants in their own care and welcomes their ideas and questions.

Tyler grew up in Portland, Maine and will always be a “Mainer” at heart. She has adopted Newburyport as a second home where she lives with her partner and their 5-year-old son.  She looks forward to seeing you in the office!
